How To Celebrate Valentine’s Day Sans SO

Your Life in Pink

February 8, 2025

Are you dreading a certain holiday that’s coming up?

Valentine’s Day can be tough for those of us who aren’t coupled up. It’s always been considered a celebration of romantic love with its saccharine sweets, heart-shaped everything, and Cupid emblems … but in our modern era, it doesn’t have to be limited to just that.

Nowadays, Valentine’s Day is a holiday that celebrates all kinds of love. That means platonic and self-love too! After all, why shouldn’t we celebrate our nearest and dearest and the love they bring us? Any and every form of love enriches our lives, whether it comes with a physical component or not.

If you’re sick of the February 14th pity parties, this guide is for you. The holiday is what you make of it, and you have the power to make it amazing! Read on to discover our favorite ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day, regardless of your relationship status.

Have a Galentine’s Day celebration

What started out as a great episode of Parks & Rec has become an annual February tradition for all the incredible women out there – thanks Leslie Knope!

Galentine’s Day is an unofficial holiday that celebrates the female friendships in your life. It’s often observed on the 13th, but you can push it over to the 14th if it better suits your schedule (and mood). So round up your besties and have some fun! You can go to brunch, host a dinner party, have a spa day, try a fun activity that’s been on everyone’s list, or even plan a little getaway if you all have the time. The beauty of Galentine’s Day is that it’s very open to interpretation. Just make sure that you take some time to tell your friends how much they mean to you.

Cross something off your bucket list

One of the best things about being single is the complete freedom that comes with it. You don’t have to wait around for a partner to be ready to do something – you can make any kind of wild, last-minute plans that you want!

This is something you might overlook on a daily basis, so take advantage of it on the ultimate day of love. Maybe there’s an activity or class you’ve been wanting to try but haven’t quite gotten around to yet, like axe throwing, rock climbing, pottery, or glassblowing. Maybe there’s a trip you’ve been wanting to take, or a local destination you’ve been meaning to hit up, like a unique restaurant or a chic boutique hotel. Whatever it is, embrace the joy of doing it entirely on your own terms.

Have a self-care day

If you find yourself flying solo on the 14th, use the opportunity to spoil yourself. Self-care looks and feels different to everyone, so plan your day accordingly.

Your self-care day might involve a relaxing yoga class followed by an indulgent spa/pamper session, it might be a day spent in nature, or maybe you can take yourself out for dinner and a movie. Choose activities that bring peace and spark joy, so you really feel refreshed and rejuvenated by the end of it.

Romance yourself

Add Flowers by Miley Cyrus to your music queue, because you can love yourself better than anyone else! Don’t skip out on the romantic traditions of Valentine’s Day if you don’t want to.

Buy yourself a bouquet of your favorite flowers, treat yourself to some fancy chocolates, and maybe splurge on that piece of jewelry you’ve been eyeing. Writing your name in the sand and talking to yourself for hours are also encouraged.

Spread love within your community

Giving love is just as important as receiving it. Treat Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to give. You can still share cute Valentine’s treats like chocolates and flowers with your friends and family. If you have a bit more time, consider spreading that love even further by engaging in random acts of kindness with strangers, or possibly volunteering for an organization that could use a little extra love.

These acts can be as simple as paying for someone’s order in a cafe, or officially volunteering at a senior’s home, animal shelter, homeless shelter, or hospital. Giving back is a rewarding reminder that love has so many different forms.

We hope you’ve enjoyed these ideas! Whether you choose to enjoy your own company or spend the day with friends, your Valentine’s Day deserves to be filled with so much love. And we love YOU! xoxo
