A Little Self-Love Goes a Long Way

Your Life in Pink

Last week, we started a board at La Vie en Rose called “I <3 Me.” Our goal was to encourage our shoppers to write down (anonymously!) something they love about themselves in an effort to inspire others while sharing some much-needed self-love.

What started as an optimistic endeavor quickly turned into something puzzling: Our very first shopper up to bat at the “I <3 Me” wall wasn’t able to come up with something to share. That very lack of self-appreciation was the entire inspiration for Megan Boardman, owner and founder of LVR, when she came up with the idea.

“[Women] say that we love our kids and our husbands and our friends and how they make us feel – but we can’t describe how we make ourselves feel,” says Megan. “We should be able to easily answer the question, ‘What do you love about YOU?’ but we can’t.”

After our first lovely lady struggled with the task, we knew we were on the right track. If women can’t even come up with one thing they like about themselves, we have a responsibility to help each other see the strengths we have.

“Remember always that you not only have the right to be an individual, you have an obligation to be one.”

– Eleanor Roosevelt

We’re working toward a place where women don’t assume that their every flaw and quirk is at the forefront of everyone else’s mind. Think about it – isn’t it a little unreasoable to think that every person you interact with is looking deeply into your psyche and nitpicking your personality and looks? More often than not, the people around you are simply happy with your company, finding the joy in just being with you.

“People may flatter themselves just as much by thinking that their faults are always present to other people’s minds, as if they believe that the world is always contemplating their individual charms and virtues.”

– Elizabeth Gaskell

All of this is to say that we want you to lighten up, take stock, and start to appreciate yourself for who you are, what you’ve accomplished and all the future has to look forward to.

“It’s so easy to get lost in the craziness of day-to-day and not feel like the beautiful women we are,” Megan reminds us. “Why not have a cool little space to remind us?”

We can’t think of one reason why not.

Love and flowers,
La Vie en Rose
